Planning an Epic Elopement in Revelstoke
When Ryan reached out to me about elopement photography, I knew right away that Revelstoke would be the perfect place for an incredible experience. He and his fiancé, Sam, were flying to British Columbia from England with their son to go on a road trip through the Rocky Mountains. Revelstoke on their map and wanted to make it part of their mountain adventure in a big way. We did some brainstorming together, and we came up with the theme for a "mountain top to valley bottom" elopement package where we would start the day with a helicopter ride to a mountain top for Ryan and Sam to exchange vows, followed by a short trip to Lake Revelstoke for some photos in the valley. Ryan and Sam were stoked, and we met up with the officiant at the helipad a few weeks later.

Getting Ready for Our Helicopter Ride in Revelstoke
The team at Glacier Helicopters is top notch and they are the heli flight pros. They know the Revelstoke area inside and out (and from top to bottom) and they welcomed us to the hangar with open arms. To help everyone feel excited, our pilot gave us an in-depth safety briefing before taking off. He even let us get some cool photos with the helicopter before our flight.
The vibes were high and we were in the air in no time. The weather was absolutely perfect that day, so we were able to fly high up into the mountains and enjoy some incredible views along the way. Since the helipad is just to the edge of town (which made it really easy to find), we got to fly right over Revelstoke so you could see everything from the Revelstoke Courthouse to the art gallery and the ski resort.

Incredible views of Revelstoke and the Columbia River
We flew over town and followed the Columbia River down the valley for a while before taking a sneaky turn into another valley to fly even higher. It was amazing to see the natural wilderness from this perspective; when you're in a helicopter, you're not quite as high as a plane but you can still see the vastness of the beautiful Canadian landscape.
Their Own Private Mountaintop Wedding Venue
We arrived at our destination, and let me tell you the view was amazing! Ryan and Sam were gifted a 360 degree view of the mountains, including an incredible view of Ghost Peak (which you can actually see from the Stoke Chair at Revelstoke Mountain Resort on a clear day). Since it was June, we even had a little bit of snow to play in when we got out of the helicopter.
This is What a Helicopter Elopement is Like in Revelstoke
With the warm sun above, Ryan and Sam joined hands made their way to the lookout to exchange vows. With their son alongside them, they shared some laughs, some words of love and affection, and promises to each other to affirm how much they care for each other. Ryan and Sam couldn't take their eyes off each other while they expressed their love and exchanged rings. They were fully and totally present with each other and you could tell that they were totally at ease. It was absolutely serene. The sun was warm, the breeze was cool, and the landscape was stunning.
After their "I do's", Ryan and Sam spent some time enjoying the scenery while I took their photos. They had packed for their heli elopement really well and normally I would've encouraged them to put on some warmer shoes (given the snow that we found). But, since the weather was so amazing, we were a little cheeky and they wore their fancier shoes instead (cute!).

After some hugs and a few laughs, it was time to fly again. Our pilot took us for a scenic flight along the mountain tops before heading back towards town. We flew right over town, and it was fun for me to share Revelstoke with Ryan and Sam this way - I pointed out different runs on the ski hill as we flew by, we could see the hockey arena and the greenbelt walking trail, Revelstoke National Park, and we even flew right over my house (my yard is too small for a helicopter to land there, though, so we just flew back to the hangar).

Visiting Lake Revelstoke
After landing and thanking our pilot, it was time to spend some time by the water. We drove to Lake Revelstoke for some new perspectives and for the valley portion of Same and Ryan's day. They chatted the whole way there about their epic helicopter ride, and couldn't get enough of the different views on the way to the lake. Once we got there, they shared some laughs, looked for driftwood, and enjoyed a great picnic meal courtesy of La Baguette. The rocky beach was only a short walk from the car, which made it convenient for taking a few photos and sitting in the sun.
The great thing about Lake Revelstoke is that even though it's close to town, nature is still fully alive in the area. Case in point, we got to sit and watch a few eagles dive into the lake for fish nearby while we took in some breathtaking views late into the afternoon.

A Real Revelstoke Helicopter Elopement
It truly was an incredible day, and what a trip for this amazing little family! From mountain top to valley bottom, Revelstoke really is an amazing destination for an elopement. As a photographer I am so lucky to call Revelstoke home, and I'm always so grateful to be able to share this beautiful place with all of my clients. Thank you, Ryan and Sam, for having me as your heli elopement photographer!
